The Center For The Study Of Christianity At The Hebrew University of Jerusalem

Welcome to the new site of the Center for the Study of Christianity at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The Center was established in 1999, thanks to the generosity of Hubert and Aldegonde Brenninkmeijer-Werhahn, and dedicated in March 2000, just ahead of John Paul II’s historical visit to Israel. The Center for the Study of Christianity is dedicated to the promotion of research, in all fields, themes and topics related to Christianity and its history. The Hebrew University is a secular institution, and the Center has no religious dimension or theological mission, overt or hidden. It is the only institution of its kind in Israel. The Center fosters research in all aspects of Christianity, and wishes to emphasize the study of the New Testament and its Jewish background, the historical relationship of Jews and Christians, the history of Christianity in the Holy Land, and Eastern Christianity in its various forms and literatures. Since its inception, the Center has organized more than forty lectures and seminars, three International Conferences and various workshops. Twenty graduate students have received Fellowships. Various Research projects have been launched. Other activities, Conferences and Research projects are being planned. The Center seeks to establish an active presence both on campus and within the city of Jerusalem, and also to develop scholarly cooperation at the international level. Guy G. Stroumsa Martin Buber Professor of Comparative Religion Director, Center for the Study of Christianity
